The Present Participle

Description: Learn how to form the present participle in English.

 

Video Transcript: The present participle is usually formed by adding ing to the verb - walk→walking. If the verb ends with a letter e we remove the e before adding ing - drive→driving. If the verb ends with a consonant then a vowel and then another consonant and the stress is on the last syllable, we double the last letter before adding ing - run→running, swim→swimming.

 

The present participle is usually formed by adding -ing to the verb.

      walk → walking

If the verb ends with a letter e, we remove the e before adding -ing.

      drive → driving

If the verb ends with a consonant, then a vowel, and then another consonant and the stress is on the last syllable, we double the last letter (except the letter "w").

      run → running
      swim → swimming
